Abstract

Abstract: The book A Bridge Between Syllabic and Aruzi Persian Poetry (Poli mian-e she'r-e heja'i va aruzi-e farsi), edited by Ahmad-Ali Raja'i (1974), is a rhythmic and archaic translation of the Holy Quran (MS No. 2309, Astan Quds Library), recognized as one of the earliest Persian attempts at saj' (rhymed prose) translation of the Quran. This work is a valuable source for historical linguistics due to its treasure trove of archaic vocabulary, unique syntactic features, and its linguistic ties to the Nishapuri dialect. Despite the significance of the text, challenges arising from the scribe's handwriting—which failed to accurately transcribe words from the source manuscript—coupled with the antiquity of certain dialectal features, have led to misreadings in the printed edition. Although scholars such as Ali-Ashraf Sadeghi have previously addressed some of these shortcomings, a precise collation of the manuscript against the printed text reveals that several reading errors persist, which require further investigation and correction. Employing a critical approach and by re-examining the manuscript, this study identifies and corrects seventeen cases of reading and printing errors that have hitherto been overlooked and for which no prior suggestions for emendation have been proposed.
